Kids Clothes Week Challenge Sept 20-26

I have never participated in something like this
so I kind of don't reallly know what I am doing.
Basically sewing at least one hour a day some
sort of kids clothing..
OK I do that anyway so might as well throw on
a badge and call it official!

LOVE THESE!!
After a little bit of messin around I came up with a super easy way to make the pants
I make now last a lot longer.. Starting with fitting Lola, they also fit Izzie and will soon
enough fit Fiona.. Wish I had done this a long time ago.. there are some pants I made Izzie
a while back that I still wish fit him...
anyhow... here's the trick... Elastic in back.. Drawstring in the front..
I know .. I know.. Doesn't take a genius...
Super easy.. should have made a tutorial but I was so busy 'thinking' and 'working' that I
totally didn't! Basically you make a pant how you normally would...
* make two button holes in front area.
*cut your elastic half or less than what you would normally use..
*sew drawstrings onto both ends of elastic
When you thread your elastic leave the entire front casing open thread just the elastic part
through the back.. sew the part where the elastic and drawstring meet into one side (seam area)
thread through the rest of the way and do the same on the opposite side.
Now thread the drawstrings through the button holes in front .. fold over the casing and enclose
the drawstrings. VIOLA!!

OK so this would help with pictures I am sure so I
will take some of the next pair I make and post them ....

I am nothing if not a total copy cat.
{ssshhhhhhh!!!!}
I long time ago I bought a shirt for one of the kids that
said..
"i heart zombies"
well..
it was super cute.. kinda pricey..
(but made by a SAHM so I bought it)
Now that it has been grown out of...
(still remains a hand me down for fionie)
I decided to just make a new one.
Finally figured out how the freezer paper stencils work..
(TOTALLY COOL!!)
it was a little bit tedious to cut out the letter.s...
did not have an exacto knife as recommended..
I used a leatherman supertool! Quite brave on my
part.. I have gotten more than my fair share of
bloody wounds from using a leatherman.
But... a bloody wound.. an I heart zombies tee..
kinda works I think.
Ok so no blood.
a cool shirt though!
AND I used some fabric paint that turned velveteen when
steamed with the iron..
it was rad!
SSSSTTTEEEAAAAMMMMM!!!
and
POOF!
velvety letters..
wow.. I don't pretend to even know how it works. its just neato!

I don't know if you've all heard this little jingle as many times as I have...
it's catchy (kinda) and gets stuck in my head..
especially when little Lola sings it and will not stop asking for one.
... after seeing the commercials I know that I would like to
make her one but I am not good with 'on the fly' 'off the cuff' type things..
I need a pattern to insure not having to re-do a million times...
since the little peachs b-day is fast approaching I decided it was time
to figure this pillow person out..

i was drying my hair today and it struck me suddenly...
{my blog... is like that one scene in 'Hedwig and The Angry Inch"}

For those that haven't seen the movie..
You Are Missing Out.
Seriously!
even my husband.. who is grossed out by gay things
but in real life might have a thing for effeminate men
(I know this this because he GUSHES over Brain Molko- Placebo's Lead Singer)
totally loves.. or kinda loves.. or at least loves to watch this movie
and plays the song "Origin of Love" every time he is drunk ;)

any way it is a great movie.. in my humble opinion..
and getting off track here what I mean to get across
is that ..

there is a scene in the movie where Hedwig is playing
to a very small crowd.. in a deli.. the song is fantastic.
One of my FAVORITES..
however the only people watching are the few in the deli..
they're not really paying attention..
just having some coldcuts.. and maybe a sodee..

it occured to me that iam like Hedwig.
and ONLY in that way
(because I am not a transsexual punk rocker.. )

my blog is just one a a trillion..
and I only have 18 followers..and I think probably only maybe 5... or 3 of those
followers actually 'follow' me.

In some far off way I am like Hedwig singing to those 4 folks
having a bite of sammich.

OK-
I really having some sewing to do..Just had to get that out of my head..
its been swimming in there ALL DAY!!

Road Trip

Such a pretty place we found today.
Last time we tried to venture this direction Michael
got pulled over for speeding and we turned around
at the booth where you pay.

Today we drove right into or onto... this gorgeous little island.
turned out perfect... got some great pictures..
and ... then..
Izzie..
he didn't want to get out of the water..
(and getting into the water wasn't really the plan anyway..
but how do you keep these kids OUT OF THE WATER?!
You Don't.)
and so the next 45 minutes or so were hurtful to my ears.
but we made it back.. and it was a fun little trip.
having Michaels family here is really nice
I will be sad to see them leave.

My Husband Went To Vegas And All I Got Was This....

yeah so Michael went to Vegas to meet his family
and escort themback to our lovely home..
and he brought back some funny gifts for us all..
except the kazoo for Lola was kind of a bad idea..
anyway.. mine was tiny ...and I assume VERY cheap..
BUT I LOVE HER!
I was just thinking to myself the other day..
that I need/want to make some baby shirts that say
I heart Zombies.
and so yeah.. now I totally am going to!

here she is.. watching over all my sewing from here on out..
or at least until one of the kiddies find her.

An Adult Tutu -ish creation

I made a skirty tutu for Ashley over
at Ashley's Bookshelf to review for me.

I must say big tutu's are harder to make than small tutu's
(duh, right?!)

OK so I did my very best and didn't even get mad
when I couldn't get the elastic to go through and had
to use my seam ripper in a few places.

I REEEEEEEEALLY hope she likes it..

so yeah... Big Kid TUTUs are on the menu now

Made something for myself...

I think I might be going coo-coo-crazy with all the tutu making..
Tonight I wanted to make something for myself.. because I rarely
do.. I chose a fabric that I like but wouldn't be upset about if I totallywrecked.. then once I cut out the skirt I wanted to make the tutu bug
came over me ..and I threw a silky polka dot layer under the main skirt
and added mini poms and pleated ribbon!! FER REALS?!?! yep..Totally off my rocker...

When I was almost done and holding it up to give it a good look Maisie
says "OH MY GOSH IT"S HUGE!!" ok.. thanks Mais.. mama is huge..but we don't need to say it out loud.. or at least THAT LOUD!! :)
I am decently happy with the results.. I am wearing it now..
I might look like a clown.. or a crazily dressed homeless person..
It is comfy though.. and cute.. in an odd way.

I have to say that I was totally inspired to make something for myself
by my good friend Natalie over
at Hungry Hippie ... she made the most amazing peasant dress with petticoat..
GORGEOUS..

At first I didn't like tutu's very much..
.. I don't know why.. I guess because it seemed everyone
was doing it... and I don't tend to like to go along with the crowd..
Then the tutu drive came along and the little girl inside
me couldn't help but make one ..
AND NOW!!!!
I can't stop!

I went to a place.. bought some.. er TONS of stuff.. and am
now on a TUTU MAKING FIT!!
What little girl doesn't like a tutu?!
So I have one or a few for the tutu drive.. and of course one or a few for my
little girls.. and then maybe I will take some to a craft show
and try to sell some... It seems as though I am keeping
more than I am willing to let go of these days though.

OH WELL!!

It isn't SUPER tutu-ish.. but stay tuned for the
awesome tutu materials that I brought home this evening..
I told little dorkes to make pretty faces... and as you can tell
by the second one.. she makes REALLY pretty faces!!

Mini Wonderland Bunting - Mini Tutorial

Wonderland Mini Bunting
&
Mini Tutorial

(by mini I mean not very wordy, and not very instructional)

Here is what I did to make the mini bunting:

First the ingredients if you will:
1 Jelly Roll
1 Honey Bun (maybe this is called a sweet roll?)
Bias Tape
Pinking Shears
Straight Pins

The pretty rolls before I unrolled them.

The strips before sewing together.

Measuring the triangles after the strips are sewn.
This is the LONG AND BORING PART!

All the stacks before being sewn together....
Here is where is starts to get messy...

the chain of triangles....

Once all the triangles were done I used my pinking
shears to clip the edges..

The I sewed them onto some 1/4 inch bias tape...

I LOVE IT!! I love the colors and the raw edges.
I love that it can be appropriate for more than one
occasion or decorating theme... AND
I love that on this package of bias I only had to
use 20 triangles.. and that I have 140 more.
So I can SELL SOME!!
My etsy shop has seen some better days..
I need something to brighten it up a bit

she want's for everything to be handed to you.. and there

that is my Maisie.
She is the coolest.. most fantastic.. totally amazing..
flipping brave.. has more guts than anyone I know..
the biggest little person that I have ever known.
I love her more than I love life.

I remember my granny saying a lot... "Don't buy that! Do you know how
easy that would be to make?!" well No gramma... I'm 7 and can't
sew yet.
Bless her crotchety little soul (she's still living tho)she was absolutely correct. Little did I know it then...
I don't say it all that much but I think it often.
For example... some little dolls .. selling for upwards
of $50.00.... ppppsssshhhhaaaahhhh.

Crafting with Lola

Tonight I gave Lola a little craft

project to keep her out of my hair ...

She was so proud of herself and
kept saying "I love making paper clips"
I kept telling her it was a hair clip/pin
... but yeah..I guess she is going to useit for all her important
papers insteadof keeping her hair out of her face

smiles like a goober when shes really excited

A little lolipop hair.. er.. paperclip!

And here is what I did.
A little bracelet with shades of blue cord.
I kinda dig it..

Lola asked me why I was taking pictures of this and
I told her to put them on my blog..
after a few seconds she says...
"well.. I think you should put it on your wrist"
brilliant!

I made a dress to enter into a contest
and I CAN NOT get a good picture of it!!
Someone please enlighten me.. how the heck
do you take a picture of a wobbley 5.5 month old
that shows off the dress she is wearing..
Out of 55 pictures here are three that
aren't horrible but I don't think good enough
to use as entry photos..

Here she looks somewhat calm...
but not really down for picture taking.

In this one she is looking at Lola as if to say
"HELP ME?!"

And here she is coming for my jugular..
She hates pink.. she hates polka dots.. and most
of all she hates the ridiculous bow that I put in her hair...
and it all goes down hill from here...

I have a few days left to enter my dress in the contest..
any suggestions for how to get a good picture would be

book.. it was fun.. my only recommendation is
that you use table salt.. not kosher salt..

Curses To The Flippin Swap Project!!

UGHHH!!!

I finished project-take two and I REEEALLLY don't like it.
I have tried to bond with it.. look at it in different lights..
squash it.. smooth it out.. throw it across the room.
Nothing is working.. I don't know what to do.
I have two other idea's.. both bags .. picked out.
I HOPE that one of them will turn out good enough to send.

The Swap Project- Take Two

I Made A Dress

This weekend some very lovely lady friends of mine came for a visit.
.. and I made one of them a dress... short and sweet I know.
Thats just me. Here are some pictures.

The fabric... pretty :)

I got really caught up in the creative process so I didn't manage to take very
many pictures of what happened from start to finish.

The pattern used was McCalls 5953 from 1961.

Izzie would not stay put and met a girl he enjoyed hugging and kissing on.
Lola won best pumpkin and got a little prize.

Fun with Felting

It's that time of year again..
time to get out the yarn and start knitting and crocheting..
This year I am learning to felt. So far I have made a couple
of hats and a stocking... I really enjoy the process and love the
way that the socking turned out.
Even though the object doesnt change much it's exciting for me to
put it in the washer and see what comes out.

Red Riding Hood Smock

Made the CUTEST smock yet!
I found some Kokka print that I thought I'd used up but alas had not!
Probably had a little more than a quarter yard left and
managed to pull 2 smocks and 1 small apron out of it... and the smock..
SO CUTE!
My sweet Izzie man once again is my model...
he pulls off the girly clothes so well :)

Just when I think I am free and clear from blogging I get that guilty twinge and I am pulled back in... It's not that I don't like to... (I do) Or that I don't have time... (I could make time) It's more a feeling of 'Im just not that organized.. put together.. whatever.' And whatever it is.. here I am .. back again... And it's really funny because who am I back for? hah... I am about 99.9% positive NO ONE reads this blog... So no biggie..

Jesus?

This is a picture of me swinging happily as a child. I am not sure how I came into possession of it, or why it was up on display on the side of the fridge. I have seen it many times and never thought anything other then, 'Geez, that is sure some brown grass'. Then the other day I was standing leaning against the counter top, I glanced over at the fridge and Jesus freakin jumped out at me!
Now that I have seen him I cannot look at the picture without seeing him.
If you don't see him at first here is where to look... the upper right hand side
of the photo. The shadows cast by the unseen tree form the face of Jesus on the side of the storage shed in the background.
Does anyone else see this? Or am I just nutty?

Maisie's New Hair and Izzie turned 1

Maisie got new hair for her big 10 birthday. I could have killed her when she rinsed it out and turned the white bathroom pink. I am over it now. Very little remains left to piss me off when I go in there... and her hair is super cute so I suppose it was worth it ;)

The weekend before Maisie's birthday Izzie turned 1. He is smaller still than all my babies have been at this age. 21 pounds and hardly 2 feet tall. Skinny little shorty pants.

Hey, so yeah, I don't like to blog. There has been a ginormaouagantic gap in time since my last post. And I feel badly about this... I really do. I blog in my head all the time. If only I could hook my brain up to my laptop and transfer the data there onto here, without having to lift a finger. Anyhow, I want to win this babysteals.com contest, and even though I already have a babysteals tag on my blog, I am putting on another. They are turning a big 1 and I am happy to say that I love them. I have gotten many items from www.babysteals.com dirt cheap. Babylegs, baby spare wear, some cutesty shoes, some pants I think... I don't really remember. I get an email from them every day with the steal of the day and it is always something fantastic that I don't need, but usually have to have.

Sunday At The Park

There is a nice little park right outside our front door... More often than not it is crawling with kids.. lots of them... Recently a new park opened around the corner.. and now the one in front of our house is like a ghost town.. SCORE!!

The Panda Costume TAKE 2

so I was bummed before about not taking pictures of the coats I cut up to make izzie's panda costume.. well lucky me!! i am making another Panda costume for a lovely lady .. so this time around I took pics .. I will post from start to finish the process....

one fuzzy faux suede vest lined with faux fur= 6 pound 50 pence

one pair of velvety slacks= 8 pound 50 pence

the cuting out process..

I had just enough from these two pieces.. it was really close..

everything is cut out and the unused stuff is in the garbage

halfway done..

izzie say's "youre out of your freakin mind if you think
this is what I want to be doing right now!!"

so that concludes tonights work on the 2nd Panda Costume...

I am so happy with how this turned out! It is a teeny bit cuter than the first Panda Suit and even though I spent less time making it I did a much better job..

Saturday's Walk in Ely (eel- E)

izzie bebe is a mama's boy! :)

Today we went to Ely to check out some charity shops as well as scope out a walk that we are planning for Girl Scouts next week... well I forgot to bring the directions to the GS walk so we just ended up thrifting and walking about.. to and fro.. it was fun though.. We got ice keem (as lola calls it).. I found the perfect coat and pants to make a costume out of... an old sheet and pillow covers to make something with.. and a neat little tin for putting buttons in...
It was a really beautiful day, surprising for England... and so we walked for a long time and sat and ate our ice cream along the river.. the babies were really good.. Maisie complained as usual.

we arrive ... at the carpark.. I drove this time so we didn't have
to spend 5 hours pulling into a parking space :-O... (sorry michael)

I found some super amazing yarn at this shoppe... I cannot wait to start using it. I plan to make some more wrist cuffs with it. Maisie picked out a bright orange acrylic. I got wool and bamboo..

there is a butcher next door to the yarn store.. I wanted to get something just to try it.. They had pork pie.. and this here.. Michael seemed to think that it wouldn't be sanitary.. we planned to stop back on our way out but we didn't... some day though... we will try the pasties and pork pies

of course we always have to detour at the toilet.. this time lola was wet..

izzie and daddy hung out outside while the girls pee'd

the ice keem man.. maisie and lola had soft serve cones..
michael had a coffee cone and i had a vanilla and nut cone...

we really saw a different side of Ely today.. we've been so many times and always stayed on the same path.. today we ventured off that path and it proved to be very rewarding..

Playing Dress Up

Today I finished Izzie's Halloween costume..and he is SO CUTE in it!!
I wish I had taken a picture of the two coats I cut up in order to make it....
kicking myself for that..
it's impossible to tell that an old Dorothy Perkins Coat and
a fuzzy white sweater from Japan (both thrift store finds)
are now izzie bebe's Panda Suit.

We pretty much played dress up all day. After I put him in the Panda Suit I dressed him and Lola up in their Halloween outfits and tried to get a cute picture of the two of them..

and then for the GRAND FINALE I put izzie bebe in a dress.. ;)
shhhh.. Don't tell Michael...
I think he would make a beautiful girl!

I entered the picture in a 'most convincing cross dresser' contest
on the ivillage playgroup we're a member of.. i'll update if
he wins :)

Checking Off My List

I got one skirt made, two cuffs knitted, one order finished and nearly mailed.
I am going to start a personalized cuff with izzie's name tonight.
In addition to sewing and knitting I also mopped, vacuumed and mowed the lawn.
Lola on the other hand dumped out a whole bottle of baby oil all over the carpet, emptied an entire pack of wipes all over the living room.. drew on the walls with a red colored pencil and just as I sat down here to type she got into my make-up and spilled it all over the carpet.
She does the opposite of clean.

lately i try to get to the charity shops around here as often as possible..
sometimes once a week or more...
i have found SO MANY interesting little bits and pieces..
here are a few of my favorites for this week...

i have never enjoyed writing as a past time... certainly not writing about what iam doing..
seems kinda silly... but i was inspired by a dear friend.. madly creative.. super nice lady.. with a beautiful little girl.. in a land far far away..
so i have decided to give it a go.. at the very least it will help me to keep organized all the ideas for crafts/sewing that i have in my head and the things i need/want to finish.

reversible skirt with day of dead material
red eyes on robot shirt
felt a hat
reversible skirt with ant material
cut up some of the clothing i've recently acquired and is now starting to pile to the ceiling
come up with some ideas for the fabric i get from the clothing
finish panda costume
start m's costume
start l's costume
knit some more cuffs with names or hearts or stars
brainstorm ways to sew downstairs
make a list of gifts i want to make for christmas gifts
start organizing material for aprons

ok i think that is a good list for the time being...
let's see how this all pans out..
the blog will keep us all updated :)
